About this policy

This policy describes the XM Studio Windows desktop application. XM Studio provides local Bluetooth controls for supported Sony headphones and earbuds. It is independent software and is not affiliated with Sony.

Bluetooth information and controls

XM Studio uses Windows Bluetooth APIs to find devices and communicate with a supported headset. Device information can include Bluetooth names and addresses, pairing and connection status, the model, battery status and supported sound or control settings. A device name can contain personal information if you have customised it.

This information is used locally to identify the headset, display its status and send the control commands you select. Changes such as noise mode, equalizer settings and user presets are sent to the headset. The headset may retain those settings independently of the app.

XM Studio does not capture, record or upload microphone input, music, calls or other audio. Configuring a headset feature such as Speak-to-Chat does not make XM Studio record audio.

Preferences and diagnostic logs

The app saves tray preferences in app-settings.txt and configured shortcut combinations in shortcuts.txt. It registers the shortcuts you choose with Windows; it does not keep a record of what you type.

The local xm5ui-startup.log records start and exit events, timestamps and unhandled error details. Error details can include local file paths or other diagnostic context. The log is not automatically uploaded.

These files use the app's local data directory, normally %LOCALAPPDATA%\SonyHeadphonesControl. Windows packaging may redirect the actual location. They are ordinary local text files, without application-level encryption, and are subject to Windows account and file permissions.

Retention and your controls

Preferences and logs remain until you remove them or Windows clears the app's data. The current startup log has no automatic age-based cleanup. You can change preferences and shortcuts in the app.

To reset local preferences or remove diagnostic history, exit XM Studio from its tray menu, locate its app data and delete only the relevant files named above. The app can recreate them on a later launch. Uninstalling the app may not remove every portable copy or backup. Removing local files does not reset settings already stored on the headset.

Network services and donations

XM Studio has no app account, cloud synchronisation, advertising analytics or telemetry service. It does not send device information, preferences or logs to mablook. Bluetooth communication is between your PC and the headset.

If you click Buy me a coffee, the app opens Buy Me a Coffee in your browser. Visiting that website and making an optional donation are governed by that service's policies. XM Studio does not process or receive your card details, and no payment takes place simply by opening the app.

Windows and the Microsoft Store may process information independently for installation, updates and their own services. Their policies apply to that processing. Backup, synchronisation and security tools you use may also access local files under their own settings.

Support, requests and policy changes

If you contact me, I use the information you choose to send to respond to your request. Share only what is needed, and review logs or screenshots for personal paths and device names before sending them. Support correspondence is separate from the app's local operation.
